Bowman Lake – Best SUP Spots
BEST PLACES TO PADDLE BOARD | BOWMAN LAKE, NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA
Bowman Lake is a large lake surrounded by rocky cliffs and scattered pines that are great for fishing and swimming. A few islands are found within the lake. Bowman Lake is remote and it is recommended you use a vehicle with good clearance to traverse the terrain on the way to the lake.
Board Style Recommendation: Bowman Lake is a relatively serene lake, a touring standup paddle board will cut nicely through the glassy water in the morning. Bowman has decent fishing, so a fishing standup paddle board will also be right at home.
Average Summer Temperature: 80 °F
Accessibility Rating: 4/10
Boats/Speed Limit: Some boating use, 35 mph.
Wildlife: Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout and Brown Trout.
Things to know: The road to access the campground is very rough, rocky, and narrow. A high clearance vehicle is needed, and towing boats or trailers is very difficult and dangerous. There are several stretches of the road where it is impossible for two vehicles to pass around each other and so if traffic is coming from both directions, someone will need to back up. And because this is not a state or national park, you can bring your dog wherever you want.
